La Montecarlo, which has been slinging some of the best pizza in Rome consistently since 1986, is your spot for a fast, flavorful pie. Their margherita pizza is thinner than most, with a crisp crust and bubbly, blistered mozzarella that might remind you of a classic New York cheese slice. And yet, this puts most of what you can find in NYC to shame. The sausage and potato white pizza is also good: the soft and chewy dough comes generously topped with golden cheese, fatty sausage, and tender cubes of perfectly roasted potatoes. Even though it's close to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, the crowd is more made up of locals requesting extra basil for their margherita than tourists.
