Kura Kura Bali: Creating an Innovative Island of Sustainable Solutions
ABOUT TRI HITA KARANA FORUM
The inaugural Tri Hita Karana Forum on Sustainable Development was launched at the Bali APEC in 2013. The second Tri Hita Karana Forum for Sustainable Development was held on 9-11 October 2018 around the IMF WB Annual Meetings and endorsed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.
Convened under the theme “Blended Finance and Innovation for Better Business Better World”, over 500 participants from across sectors – senior levels of government, entrepreneurs, development banks, international donors, investors, project developers, business and NGOs – attended the Forum. The Tri Hita Karana (THK) Forum aligned global action for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on mobilizing private capital and innovation for the SDGs in Indonesia and South East Asia.
The THK Forum demonstrated Indonesia’s leadership in the Global SDG Agenda and innovative financing solutions to achieve SDGs. It launched over 30 high-impact initiatives and was estimated to have mobilised close to $10 billion for priority SDGs sectors including green infrastructure, sustainable land use, oceans, ecotourism, health, women and innovation.
NOTABLE PROJECTS INCLUDE
The Tri Hita Karana Roadmap for Blended Finance, a policy-focus initiative facilitated by the OECD, WEF, Global Blended Finance Taskforce, and championed by the Indonesian government to develop a shared blended finance value system for an efficient deployment of blended finance approach to achieve the SDGs in Indonesia and around the world;
The Billion Dollar Fund for Women, a global consortium of venture funds tackling the gender funding gap, which has achieved its billion dollar target and has already seen a number of investments in high impact women funded companies, notably the woman-founded fintech startup “Duithape” in Indonesia.
The THK Forum helped catalyse the SDG Indonesia One, the first-of-its-kind integrated blended finance country platform managed by PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (PT SMI) – a special purpose vehicle – under the leadership of the Ministry of Finance to support large-scale sustainable infrastructure projects in Indonesia.
The THK Forum also spearheaded the Sakenan Bali Declaration to tackle waste and plastic pollutions which was later enacted by Bali provincial government as a regulation to ban single-use plastics in Bali.
PURPOSE
