About

David Archuleta is a singer best known for coming in second place on American Idol season 7.

While Archuleta was born in Miami, he and his family moved to Murray, Utah when he was 6 years old and he was raised Mormon. He got his start in the music industry at a young age when he auditioned for Star Search in 2003. At age 12, he was the runner-up for the Junior Vocal Champion.

Five years later, Archuleta auditioned for American Idol season 7 where he made it all the way to the finals. While Archuleta was a fan favorite, he ultimately lost to David Cook. In 2008, Archuleta released his debut self-titled album which featured his hit single “Crush.” He followed up with tracks “Zero Gravity,” “A Little Too Not Over You,” “Touch My Hand” and more.

Archuleta ultimately decided to take a two-year hiatus in 2012 so he could be a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile.

In November 2021, Archuleta came out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. After coming out, the singer left the Mormon faith.
