Contacted for a Chimney rebuild on a 40 year old house. Estimator was efficient and detailed. Made great effort to match 40 year old brick.
Crew arrived with brick as scheduled. They immediately set to work and protected area around chimney with tarps to protect shrubs and collect debris. Quickly set up scaffolding and proceeded to demolish top 8 ft of old chimney. They collected and hauled away all debris from this!
Next, they set up their corner guides from base of old chimney and proceeded to neatly rebuild the chimney. Again they collected all debris and hauled it away with them.
Per my request they had salvaged several brick to use to repair a windowsill on front of house thereby guaranteeing an exact match to existing brick.
They did an overall excellent job in about 5 hours flat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ted T.Ann Arbor, MI065Jan 7, 2025
Avoid at all costs! While the work looked good at first (new chimney and front step), less than 6 months later, we had roofer over who mentioned that the chimney cap (which had been replaced in April with the rest of the chimney) was cracked. After numerous inquiries on their website and calls that went unanswered, I called the owner and got a call back from someone who said the would send a crew out to replace it. The "crew" of 1 person showed up late Sunday afternoon (dark), took one look at the chimney and said he couldn't do it by himself and would be back with more help later. He showed up a day or two later and got right to work. After taking off the cracked cap, he showed me pictures of what was under it. Under the crack in the cap were 2 wooden planks across the chimney, the rest was unsupported. He then proceeded to replace the cap, and the pictures look good, but who knows. In addition, ever since the first fix, I had been asking for them to put the appropriate metal cage cap on the flue (13x9) rather than the 13x13" cage that they had put on to keep out critters, but the message never got to anyone and the crew never came prepared. Subsequent calls to ask about the cage and any extension of the warranty on the new cap have gone unanswered. A cracked cap what was led to the damage to the chimney and its replacement in the first place. Hoping this review sparks some response.

Overpriced, did not clean up after job, wanted us to sign a contract saying work was completed and we do not have any further recourse with them. Why? Most companies guarantee their work.
They were to repair all around the home - nip/tuck joints and repair a weak cornerstone. Terrible workmanship mason repair of a cornerstone fell off, joints came loose or were found not even repaired. We called less then a month after they completed their work.
I had exterior painters scheduled right behind them. I called Joel and Jerry. The owner, Joel, never called/texted back. The salesman and repair guy, Jerry, responded once and then ghosted me with no apology or concern to correct inferior work. I will be reporting their shady, overpriced, incompetent business to the Better Business Bureau. I implore all others who experienced their incompetence to do the same. If you've not used their services, don't walk away RUN! Save yourself money and headache.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cathy O.Hyannis, MA130Oct 9, 2024
TOO EXPENSIVE AND SCAMMERS! Convinced two older people that their price was right and did the work the next day before we had a chance to think it out. Sooo disappointed!

After reading the customer feedback from Cornerstone, I was excited to have them quote my job. However, after my terrible experience, I would never use Cornerstone.
Their price was more than double the price of the three other quotes I received. The sales representative was old school and played games with pricing, trying to get us to commit on the spot to high prices.
Ultimately, I got the work done for 50% less from Brickworks, who did an amazing job!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Heidi O.West Bloomfield Township, MI010Aug 26, 2024
You rebuilt my chimney 3 years ago. I have had a slow leak that you continuously blamed on the roof for the last 2 years. After having the roofing company (CHI- excellent customer service and integrity) come out and inspect the roof every time I called them at your suggestion, we finally cut a hole in the ceiling to prove once and for it is the chimney and it is clearly the chimney. Your work is subpar and now you won't return my phone calls. I have been kindly requesting a call back for 2 weeks. I would be happy to update this honest review if you make the ethical decision to stand by your work and repair your mistakes.

STEER CLEAR! Steve Noble and Melissa Kage came to our house under the guise of another company (Brick One LLC), collected a deposit for work - cashed it the next day and never returned with materials. They cancelled 10+ times until we requested a refund of our deposit, when they ghosted us. We're out thousands of dollars and they didn't show up to the court date, so I've got to spend more time and money through the courts. Turns out, they've been working for Cornerstone Custom Brick since 2018. AVOID these SCAMMERS. Check Ripoff Report for Steve Noble's name - it's not the first time he's done this.
They've operated under Brick One, Cornerstone, MI Brick, etc.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ali D.Cottonwood, CA12670Oct 27, 2023
Won't meet you for a quote "without your husband"!!! Yuck!
I called Cornerstone to get an estimate on a project involving two chimney repairs. When trying to schedule an appointment, they refused to meet at any times without my husband present for the estimate. I was told that it helps reduce any miscommunication between spouses.
I understand this is a sales tactic to avoid the "let me ask my spouse" response - but it comes off as pushy, inconvenient, and quite honestly misogynistic.
If you are the person in the household who has to make the calls for quotes while your partner is away at work - skip these guys.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Reuben H.Saint Clair Shores, MI010Jun 13, 2024
Cornerstone custom brick, I am very disappointed in the work done, my chimney was replaced from the roof up a year ago paid $14,000 for work done. As soon as spring rains come in a year later. My fireplace was flooding my floor. Had my Handyman go on the roof to check it out and took some pictures that showed flashing areas at base of roof to chimney had many open holes one showed that you can put your hand threw. I really trusted them to do a professional job. But all they see is money! No Integrity!

We contacted this company because they had A coupon and we needed tuck pointing. We talked to a few other companies and we didn't go with this company because they were the cheapest we went with this company because the woman that was the sales person acted as if she knew everything, that they were highly recommended, had great reviews on Better Business Bureau, and also had wonderful reviews online.
They sent out two employees to do the job and they were nice but they did not do a decent job whatsoever. Grout was missing, grout was put on sloppy, things were not finished, and it just looked like crap.
So we texted her and told her and all she would say was wait two weeks because the grout is going to dry darker. I wasn't worried about the color of the grout I was worried about the ugliness of the job and being done in a half butt way.
We called her right away but she said to wait two weeks.
Then after two weeks I contacted her and told her I was unhappy so she said to send her pictures and she would send someone out right away.
I sent about 30 pictures with her response saying that she would get back with me and have someone come out right away.
Many, many, many text messages later and many months later nobody came out to fix the problem.
We paid for almost half of the job and decided we didn't want to pay for the other half because it was not finished so once they found out that we didn't wanna pay for the other half suddenly the company wants to come out and fix the problem seven months later.
When they came out they just added more crap as you can see in the one photo where they slapped a whole bunch of white grout on the chimney which looks insane and where they just sprayed acid all over their work which I don't know what it was supposed to do but all it did was stain my doors, stain the concrete, and make the job look even worse.
The kicker is that they are trying to tell us or should I say the company that we are supposed to pay through that we are happy and we told them we were satisfied and we are trying to get a free service from them.
If we were trying to get a free service we would not have paid anything. Now they are trying to screw us by saying that we were happy with what they did Dash which never came out of my mouth at all and that we are just again trying to get a free service so now we have to deal with them because The credit company we used is taking their word which is just "the customer was very happy" which is totally untrue. They also did the same with me on the Better Business Bureau website where I posted all of my photos and made a complaint against them but since they came out quotations only after they didn't get paid the full amount" that we were happy and so now that case is closed as well.
So if you want to deal with this company be ready to get little discounts if you leave them a five star review, a discount if you keep their sign on your lawn, and the crappyest work that will ever happen.
It would be one thing if they actually kept their word and came back to fix the problem we originally complained about four months. It is obvious that they are the ones who are trying to get over because they didn't come and I have a lot of proof via text messages that were never returned they never came back to fix their crappy work with even crappy or work until it cost them some money. So watch your back with this company because you don't want to get duped like we were. My mother is a senior citizen and does not have money because she is on a fixed income and the thought that they would do that to her is just sickening.
Pardon any grammatical errors as this was speech to text.
I know I left a prior review but I felt necessary to update. Also if you want more reviews go to the non-recommended reviews that you can scroll down and see. Many of those are negative. There are some decent ones and that's great but go to the non-recommended reviews and you'll see even more reviews.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Jun 17, 2021Previous reviewOmg. Let just say Tuckpointing but an F in place of the T.
Let me tell you that the sales person was fantastic. She was so fantastic that she had a glass of wine with us and use the old "call my boss" tactic to make us seem like we were getting some fantastic deal. It was actually the same price that everyone else quoted us and if I would've paid what was originally asked I would be ripping my hair out more than I am right now. I will say she is a very nice sales woman and she has been responsive so I cannot slag her for her companies' terrible job. It's not her fault.
The two men who came over we nice but they rushed because they had another job that day. They should have taken the time to do work that wasn't sloppy and actually finish the job. There are so many bricks that needed to actually be done and we're not addressed. There are a few bricks that they ground out but didn't put any mortar in. So empty areas-yay!
There are areas where they put the mortar on and it looks like somebody used a finger and not a trowel (I know that you can use your finger with mortar but you can still make it look decent). I know that the brow is going to be slightly different color than the old grout that's not my issue the issue is the quality of the work. The lack of areas that needed attention, the few areas that were never finished, the sloppy job on quite a few areas, and a few things that were said to be done but not.
I get that doing Tuckpointing is not an easy job but when you pay the amount of money you do it should at least look semi-decent.
Again, I'm not flagging the sales person because that's her job. The gentleman who did the job obviously rushed through and maybe they were either bad at doing their job or they didn't care. I can't say either way because I'm not going to say something rude because when they're not rushing they could possibly be great brick layers but as far as putting mortar on I could've done what they did what I don't get paid for that job so that will show you the quality.
