Dawasa는 M. D. Gunasena [1]& Company의 일부인 Independent News Limited가 발행하는 실론의 신할라어 일간지였다.1961년 8월 14일에 설립되어 [2]콜롬보에서 출판되었다.1966년에는 평균 순매출이 55,[1]000명이었다.1970년에는 평균 발행부수가 58,600부,[3][4] 1973년에는 83,285부였다.

1973/74년까지 인디펜던트 신문 출판물은 시리마보 반다라나이케 [5]정부를 비판하는 목소리가 되었다.정부는 1974년 4월 19일 비상사태(방위)[6][7][8][9][10] 규정에 따라 인디펜던트 신문사를 폐쇄하고 폐간했다.인디펜던트 신문은 1977년 3월 30일 발행이 재개되었지만 3년간의 휴간으로 타격을 [2][6][7]입었다.재정적 문제에 직면한 인디펜던트 신문과 그 다양한 출판물은 1990년 [11][12]12월 26일에 폐간되었다.
