마두

마두의 다른 용도는 마두(동음이의)를 참조한다.

마두(산스크리트어:마두)는 여러 인도-아리아어족에서 사용하는 말로 꿀이나 단 것을 의미한다. 그것은 궁극적으로 프로토-인도-유럽어 *médʰu, whence English mead에서 유래되었다.

은유적 용법

마두는 리그베다(기원전 1700–1100년)[citation needed] 이래 수천 년 동안 와인과 비슷한 은유적 의미로 사용되어 왔으며, 예를 들어 "진리의 포도주"와 같은 방법으로 힌두교 종교 문헌에 사용되었다. 예를 들어 기원전 1천년에 작곡된 것으로 추정되는 브리다라냐카 우파니샤드에는 마두 브라흐마나라는 장과 "베다스 자체의 비밀의 본질은 마두비디야 또는 '꿀의 교리'로 불렸다"[1][2]는 내용이 담겨 있다.

다양한 의견

마두라는 말을 둘러싸고 의견이 분분하다. 일부 학자들은 마두의 은유적 용법을 베다족의 초기 구성에 매우 가까운 시기로 추론한다. 소마는 인도-이란인(아베스탄에서는 하오마로 알려져 있다)의 공유 신성한 음료로 베다인에서는 종종 은유적으로 마두라고 일컬어진다. 그러나 "소마의 용어와 관련하여 베다에 상당히 가까운 아베스타는 '소마' = '마두'라는 방정식을 알지 못한다"[3]고 말했다.

리그베다 8.48.1과 리그베다 8.48.3에서는 소마를 소마 책에서 분명히 다루고 마두라고 설명한다.

이름에서의 사용

마드후르라는 파생어는 남성들에게 힌두교의 성으로 사용되며, 마드후르는 두 가지 이름 모두 어느 한 성별에 대해 발생할 수 있지만 남성들 사이에서 흔한 이름이다. 마드후리는 마드후르의 일반적인 여성 변종이다.[4] 마드허라는 단어는 마두(꿀/단)와 -r/-라(좋거나 비슷한)의 합성어다. 몇몇 다른 이름들은 마두카르, 마두후산, 마두리카, 마두발라와 같은 뿌리 마두후를 기반으로 한다.[5]
