pthirus는 치아의 한 종류다.현존하는 종은 단 2종뿐이며, 이들은 프티르과에서 유일하게 알려진 종이다.[3]고릴라는 고릴라를 괴롭히고,[4] 고릴라는 사람을 괴롭히고, 고릴라는 게발톱이나 게발톱으로 통한다.[5]이 두 종은 약 330만 년 전에 갈라졌다.[6]
1958년부터 피루스의 총칭은 그리스에서 유래한 피루스의 오식에도 불구하고 pth가 아닌 pth로 표기되어 왔다.[7][8]
