공적인 성행위는 공적인 맥락에서 일어나는 성행위다. 공공장소나 공공장소에서 볼 수 있는 사적인 장소에서 성행위를 하는 1인 이상의 사람을 말한다.

그러한 사적인 공간은 뒷마당, 헛간, 발코니, 커튼이 열린 침실일 수 있다. 공공성에는 쇼핑몰 등 일반인이 자유롭게 출입할 수 있는 준공인 장소에서의 성행위도 포함된다. 공공 성행위는 다른 장소 외에 자동차(공동칭 "주차")나 해변, 숲, 극장, 버스, 항공기, 거리, 화장실 칸막이 또는 공동묘지에서 행해질 수 있다.

2008년 한 대규모 연구에 따르면 공공장소에서 성관계를 갖는 것은 흔한 환상이며 상당수의 부부나 개인이 그렇게 했다고 한다.[1] 그 환상은 때때로 예술이나 영화에서 묘사된다.

발생

고대 그리스에서는 키닉 철학자 테베의 크라테스가 또 다른 키닉 철학자 마로네아의 아내 히파르키아와 공공장소에서 성관계를 가졌다고 기록되어 있다.[2]

2003년 9월 BBC는 인터넷 홍보에 힘입어 도깅 열풍이 불었다고 보도했다.[3] 도깅은 다른 사람들이 지켜보는 가운데 주로 주차장이나 시골 공원에서 공공 성행위를 하는 영국식 영어 속어다.[4][5][6] 도깅은 전시주의와 관음증의 측면이 있다.

인터넷에는 미국, 캐나다, 아일랜드, 호주, 바베이도스, 브라질, 네덜란드, 덴마크,[7] 노르웨이,[8] 폴란드,[9] 스웨덴 등 다른 나라에도 '도그'가 퍼지기 시작했다는 일부 증거가 있다.[10][11]

야외 공개 성관계는 밴쿠버와 샌프란시스코의 공원과 해변에서 자주 일어나는 것으로 알려져 있다.[12] 뉴욕 잡지에 따르면, 공공의 섹스는 뉴욕시에서 빈번하게 발생하며, 많은 사람들에게 흔한 환상이라고 한다.[13]

공공의 성과 성에 관련된 사회적 견해는 문화와 시대마다 크게 다르다. 공공장소에서의 성에 적용되는 법이 많고 다양하며, 외설적인 노출, 공공의 음담패설, 심한 우유부단함 등 다양한 용어를 사용한다. 일부 관할구역에서는 참가자가 다른 사람에게 보이는 경우에만 범행이 이뤄지기 때문에 밀폐된 화장실 칸막이에서 범죄를 저지르지 않고 성행위를 할 수 있다.

영국에서는 1990년대 초부터 공공 성(性) 관련 법 시행에 대한 접근이 보다 완화된 탓인지 공공 성(性)[14] 행사장이 늘어나고 있다.

합법성

영국에서는 2003년 성 범죄법의 일환으로 공공 성행위의 법적 지위를 고려하였다. 법의 71조는 공중화장실에서 성행위를 하는 것은 위법이라고 규정하고 있다. 영국의 공공 성(public sex)은 관음증, 성행위의 전시 또는 공개적인 표시와 관련된 법 아래 있지만, 공공 성법 집행은 여전히 모호하다. 1986년 공공질서법 제5조, 2003년 성범죄법 제66조에 따른 노출, 또는 공중부양죄에 대한 일반법 위반에 대해 기소가 가능하다. 구속은 최후의 수단이며 이런 상황에서 보다 점진적인 접근이 필요하다는 게 경찰총장협의회(ACPO)의 방침이다.[15]
