Y-cable

Y케이블, Y케이블 또는 스플리터 케이블은 하나의 공통 끝과 두 개의 다른 끝의 세 개의 끝을 가진 케이블이다. Y-케이블은 라틴 문자 "Y"를 닮을 수 있다.

신호 경로의 Y-케이블에는 5가지 공통 용도가 있다.

국내 설정에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 Y-케이블은 한쪽 끝에는 스테레오 3.5mm(1/8인치) 스테레오 남성 미니잭을 내장하고, MP3 플레이어, 휴대폰 또는 컴퓨터 사운드카드의 라인 또는 헤드폰 출력에 연결하며, 외부 앰프의 좌우 모노 입력에 연결하기 위한 RCA(포노) 남성 플러그 한 쌍이 있다. 위에서 설명한 바와 같이 연결되지 않은 커넥터의 예다.

기존의 USB Y-케이블은 하나의 USB 주변 장치가 두 개의 USB 호스트 소켓에서 동시에 전원을 공급받을 수 있도록 하는 동시에 그 소켓 중 하나로 데이터를 전송한다. 호스트에 사용 가능한 USB 소켓이 두 개 있는 한, 이것은 주 어댑터 없이도 하나 이상의 USB 포트가 공급될 수 있지만 둘 이상의 포트가 공급될 수는 없는 주변 장치를 사용할 수 있게 한다. 휴대용 하드 디스크 드라이브와[12][13] 광 디스크 드라이브에는[14][15] 이러한 Y-케이블이 공급되는 경우가 있다.

Balanced connections don’t employ the cable screen as a ground reference, so disconnecting it won’t affect the signal transfer (but it is required for the return phantom current, so needs to be present in the connection to the preamp providing phantom power).

The type of mixer found in project studios almost always has unbalanced insert points, which are accessed though the same TRS jacks normally used in balanced cables. However, these are wired such that they carry both the (unbalanced) send and return signals down the two inner cores, using the outer screen as a common signal ground. At the outboard (or patchbay) end, the lead is broken out into two tip-sleeve plugs, one carrying the send signal and the other the return (hence the popular term 'Y-cable'). Normally, the Tip contact is used as the send from the mixer, and the Ring carries the return, although this isn't always the case, so you should check your mixer manual.
