SILENT STRUTTER

SILENT STRUTTER
"In an instant every moving entity was electrified; and forming at once into a ceremonial procession, the nightmare horde slithered away in quest of the sound—goat, satyr, and aegipan, incubus, succuba, and lemur, twisted toad and shapeless elemental, dog-faced howler and silent strutter in darkness—all led by the abominable naked phosphorescent thing that had squatted on the carved golden throne, and that now strode insolently bearing in its arms the glassy-eyed corpse of the corpulent old man."
H.P. Lovecraft, The Horror At Red Hook

Here's my redrawing of the silent strutter from Lovecraft's The Horror At Red Hook. I fixed the eye and the anatomy as well as the coloring and the linework.

As I mentioned last week, this is one of my favorites of HPL's despite it's disgusting racism. The ending with the underground parade of wild creatures is absolutely amazing. Expect redrawing of most of these creeps, if I haven't done them already.

Here's artwork by G.O. Olinick from the original publication in Weird Tales of January 1927 as well as an amazing illustration by Stephen Fabian for The Occult Lovecraft.

Tomorrow's monster is another obscure creep from a posthumous "collaboration" with Derleth.
