Hospital warns of possible exposures at Tampere nightspots

A person now diagnosed with the coronavirus spent six hours at three nightclubs on Saturday night.

Tampere University Hospital (Tays) warned on Tuesday of possible coronavirus exposures at three nightspots in the south-central city over the past weekend.

The hospital announced on Twitter that a person who has been diagnosed with the coronavirus spent many hours at three establishments on the night of Saturday, 5 September.

Between 11pm and 2am, the individual was at Ranta and Poro, two restaurant-nightclubs in the Koskikeskus mall. From 2am until 5am on 6 September, the person was at Lola Club, a dance club on Lola Club just across the river on Hallituskatu.

Tays anyone who may have been at these establishments at the same time to avoid any unnecessary contact with others for the next two weeks. If they develop any symptoms of respiratory infection, they should stay away from work or school, and should be tested for coronavirus.

More cases in recent days

Earlier on Tuesday, Tays said that it had tested 298 samples for coronavirus the previous day, and had found two new infections in the Pirkanmaa region, which includes Tampere.

One of them was linked to a previously known infection cluster, while the origin of the other was unclear. Tays says that those exposed to these two individuals had been traced.

Tays runs five hospitals in the Pirkanmaa area, which has a population of over half a million.

On Friday, the University of Tampere said that more than 70 people had been exposed to Covid-19 in a chain stemming from an unofficial student event.
