Groundwater levels lower than usual

Groundwater levels have been lower than the long-term average this summer. Finland’s Environmental Administration says that the situation is not alarming.

The level of groundwater was up to thirty centimetres lower than usual in July. The lowest levels were observed in central and eastern Finland.

Levels have fallen over the summer as usual, thanks to evaporation and water consumption. Rainfall has, however, lifted groundwater levels in some places.
