Experts think the unstable weather has caused the steady decrease of algal blooms in both lakes and the sea.

Algal blooms were virtually unseen in flyovers of the Gulf of Finland, the Archipelago and the northern Baltic Sea.

These algal blooms, known as cyanobacteria can be toxic and dangerous to humans as well as other animals and marine life.

The Finnish Environmental Institute said it expects blooms to continue their decline as summer comes to an end.
