Higher Prices Slow Organic Food Sales

Sales of organically produced foodstuffs have been on the rise, even in the north of the country in Lapland's capital, Rovaniemi.

Janne Rinne, a shopkeeper in that city, says that there are hundreds of different products available, but slightly prices for these goods have meant that they sell less well than similar standard products.

According to Rinne there is, however, a demand for organic foods.

"They sell relatively well, and the volume of sales has gradually and continually risen. They are purchased from us every day," says Rinne.

However, he also points out that he has to carefully consider how much he buys in and what kind of selection he keeps in stock.

"The biggest brake on sales of organic products is still the price. Unfortunately, organic products are more expensive than other products. The higher prices still hold back sales a bit," Rinne notes.
