According to the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health(Valvira), some 20 products are on the market which have not been approved as insect repellents.
Valvira’s Senior Inspector, Rainer Pätsi advises consumers to carefully examine product labeling to determine whether the item is designed to repel.
”A product that is not officially designated as an insect repellent is probably useless.” he adds.
Repellents are commonly used to combat insects and parasites especially on cats, dogs and horses. Valvira says often retailers have simply no idea what they are selling.
