The company believes the move will strengthen NSN’s position worldwide, especially in Japan and the United States.

Motorola is keeping a majority of the patents used in wireless technology production. Around 7,500 employees will transfer to work under Nokia - Siemens Networks. Most of the staff is from large research and development sites in the United States, China and India. NSN will now be considered as world’s second largest internet supplier.

It will continue to work with Motorola’s long-term clients providing technology services to 50 internet operators. “As customers look to transition from CDMA networks to next generation technologies, the addition of the Motorola wireless network infrastructure business is targeted to ensure that we are well placed to meet those needs,” says Bosco Novak from Customer Operations at SNS.

According to the Reuters news agency, NSN was poised to buy part of Motorola operations already last year, however, Motorola’s decision to divide into two companies pushed back the purchase plans.

Motorola, which has been losing its market share in mobile phones for years, is dividing into two units: one comprising phones and domestic electronics, while the other is for enterprise and network equipment business.
