Niklas Lönngren from Suorat Putket says he believes that every child has a basic right to the best possible food.
“It should not be so that you can only buy organic produce if you have money in your pocket,” he elaborates.
The project, organised through Finland's single-parent association, has proven highly popular. The fifty holiday meals on offer were snapped up within a few days.
Christmas cheer reigns in the kitchen, where just over ten volunteers have gathered to cook, reports Sari Rauvanto-Eriksson between preparing peeling beetroots.
“This time, this help goes to one-parent families. Statistically, they are the ones faring badly, at least in economic terms.”
Lönngren says that the menu will include traditional Finnish Christmas dishes.
Meals will be delivered straight to people’s homes. Single-parent families have greeted the project with enthusiasm.
