Over the weekend, Swedes voted out the long-ruling Social Democrats in favour of a centre-right coalition led by Fredrik Reinfeldt.
Katainen believes Reinfeldt will show that the welfare state is better off in the hands of conservatives than it has been with the Social Democrats.
Social Democrat chairman Eero Heinäluoma does not believe that the defeat of the SDP in Sweden will affect his party's success in Finland's general elections next year.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen doesn't believe the power shift will greatly affect Swedish politics, although there may be a change in the country's relationship with the European Union.
