Municipal Health Care Costs on the Rise

Municipal health care costs are growing rapidly. In 2005 health care costs were 50 percent higher than costs eight years ago, according to the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities and Statistics Finland. The matter was reported in the daily Helsingin Sanomat.

Special health care cost 4.5 billion euros and primary health services cost 3 billion euros in 2005.

In spite of the growing costs, Finns have said that they want to see more improvements in healthcare.

According to a survey carried out at the beginning of the year by the Finnish Business and Policy Forum EVA, 86 percent of the respondents want the next government to put more emphasis on healthcare.
