Close Call for Finnish Military Observer Group

A Finnish military observer group in Afghanistan found itself in a dangersome situation on Tuesday morning as its two-vehicle entourage was almost hit by a blast.

No one was injured in the explosion which occurred as the vehicles drove towards the capital Kabul from Masar-e-Sharif, reports the Finnish Defence Forces International Centre, FINCENT.

The blast, which was close to hitting one of the two armoured jeeps, occurred near the town of Poli Khumri. One of the vehicles received some superficial damages from the blast fragments. The drivers were able to continue driving and did not stop the jeeps at any time. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.
