Railway Crossing Collision Kills Driver, Delays Trains

One person was killed in a collision between a car and a Pendolino train in Kempele, south of Oulu. The accident also delayed train traffic along that route.

The accident happened at a level crossing point on Saturday morning around 11:30. The driver of the car, who was alone, was killed instantly when the train struck the vehicle and dragged it around 300 metres.

The wreckage could not be removed from the tracks until the police investigated the accident. At least eight trains travelling between Helsinki and Oulu were delayed.

The State Railways VR says that the track was cleared around 17:00 Saturday evening.
