No Charges to be Brought Against Salonius

State labour mediator Juhani Salonius will not be charged with accepting bribes or misuse of office. Assistant state prosecutor Jorma Kalske says there is no evidence that he committed any crime when he was bumped up to business class on a recent flight.

Salonius was on a return flight from a holiday with his wife when the Finnair crew moved them both into business class from tourist.

At the time, Salonius was mediating acrimonious negotiations over Finnair pilots' contracts. This raised concerns that the ticket upgrade may have been an attempt to influence Salonius in the talks.

But the prosecutor's office says there was no proof of wrongdoing, and that it was quite normal for some passengers on an overbooked flight to be moved up to business class.
