Nokia has announced that it has signed the official contract on partnership with Microsoft. The companies are already busy developing their first joint products. The first Nokia phone operating on a Windows platform have been awaited in time for this year’s Christmas shopping.
“Products based on cooperation with Microsoft are coming out during next year,” says Nokia executive Ihamuotila. “I believe that, next year, we will have several of them on the market.”
Nokia finds itself in a challenging situation. The company’s first-quarter results, published on Thursday, showed its global smartphone market share falling significantly compared to the same time last year.
Nokia needs to develop, launch and market new phone models built on the Symbian operating system, which has been its main platform up until now. At the same time, the company’s and the investors’ expectations have been tied to the future Windows-based phones, with the hope that they will help the company bounce back.
