Police Monday confirmed that over a kilogramme of blasting explosives and detonators were found Sunday in the Tuulos district of Hämeenlinnaa. They say that a sports bag discovered in a field by a by- passer contained enough explosives to have caused serious harm.
After cordoning off the area, police found the bag to contain 1.2 kg of explosives and the detonators needed to set it off. Some of the detonators were found to be too damaged to be safely moved. After the bulk of the find was removed by police, the damaged detonators were destroyed in a controlled explosion at the site.
So far, police do not know the origin of the explosives, nor how they came to be where they were found and have asked members of the public any information they may have.
On Sunday Finland honours those who died defending the country's territory and people, as well as those who lost their lives in peacekeeping missions.
"I haven't shed a tear," Finnish violinist Linda Lampenius said after the votes were tallied.
If Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen win, it will mark Finland's second-ever Eurovision victory.
