Valvira’s senior inspector, head of unit and managing director are accused of negligence in their official duties. They all deny the charges.
The prosecutor charges that they should have looked more closely at two doctors’ credentials, especially as they had been informed of suspicions over their qualifications.
In both cases, the doctors were trained in Russia.
Valvira says that since the fake doctor scandals broke, it has tightened procedures for licensing around 800 doctors in Finland that were trained outside the European Economic Area, but found no further irregularities.
