The German flag carrier Lufthansa has announced cancellations of nearly all of its 1,650 short haul flights due to planned employee strike action. The industrial action also grounded flights in Finland on Monday.

Nearly all of the airline's internal European flights were cancelled due to the strike. The cancellations affected 16 flights in Finland.

The industrial action began about one month ago, during which time the airline has had to ground about 700 of its 1,800 flights. The ver. di trade union has been putting pressure on the airline’s management to increase wages in ongoing salary negotiations.

On Monday the national carrier said that all but 20 of its 1,650 short haul flights within Europe would not take off.

Lufthansa also warned passengers that its restricted flight schedule would likely suffer delays and that its long haul services would also be affected. Passengers are being advised to check their local agents for flight information updates.
