As of 8 PM on Monday, birdwatchers had registered sightings of 90,062 swans during the two-day nationwide count.

Flocks of the white birds sighted ranged from a few dozen to those in the thousands. The single largest count was 4,542 individual swans spotted at Hartola. Flocks of around 2,500 were also counted at Jämsä, Tornio and Hailuoto.

During their autumn migration, swans gather to rest and feed mainly in fields and near lakes. Outside of nesting season, they tend to gather in large flocks that are easy to spot by eye, and easy to hear as well.
