Defective Firework Pulled from Market

Officials have ordered a firecracker withdrawn from the market. Finland's Safety Technology Authority (Tukes) says the firework, sold under the name Jättitykki, is dangerous because of an error in its instructions.

The product's printed label shows an arrow pointing the wrong direction, incorrectly advising the user to place the explosive upside down -- which could cause serious damage. Thousands of these Jättitykki fireworks, manufactured by Lohjan Ilotulitus, have been sold all over Finland. Tukes says that anyone who has bought the product should return it to place of purchase for a refund.

The firework has been sold in previous years, but with the arrow pointing in the right direction.

The defective item has the Tukes approval number 1099. So do two other fireworks sold in the same package, called Teho-Thunder and Kunkkutykki. However there is nothing wrong with these products.
