Food Industry Employers Threaten Worker Shutout

The Finnish Food and Drink Industries' Federation has threatened a two-day worker shutout if a deal is not struck with the Finnish Food Workers Union (SEL). This means employers would freeze worker wages for two days.

SEL already staged a three-day strike last week, and is threatening a second strike. If no agreement is reached in the contract negotiations, the second strike will shut down 57 production facilities from midnight on April 23. This will affect 9,300 workers in all branches of the food industry.

The Federation's shutout would close down the production of meat products and ready-made food products until midnight on May 1.
