Nokia sub-contractor Ixonos cuts staff

IT services company Ixonos is to lay off up to 60 employees.

Ixonos on Wednesday announced the results of consultative talks that began in July.

Personnel from the company’s Connected Devices unit are on the chopping block. The unit makes applications for smart phones and other communications devices.

The number of layoffs in different localities is not yet known, according to Ixonos CEO Kari Happonen.

In Finland, the company operates in Helsinki, Jyväskylä, Kemi, Oulu, Tampere and Turku.

Nokia's recent strategy changes have hit Ixonos. The mobile phone manufacturer used to sub-contract Symbian services from the company, but recently changed its smartphone platform to Windows.

In previous consultative talks, held between January and February, Ixonos laid off nearly 140 employees.
