HJK win sixth title in a row

HJK Helsinki secured their sixth consecutive Veikkausliiga football championship on Sunday with a 4-1 win over TPS Turku. The win is their 27th Finnish league win and was confirmed with four games to go--leaving the capital club free to focus on their Europa League Group games during the autumn.

Highlights of HJK's 4-1 win over TPS Turku.

The Veikkausliiga football championship was decided on Saturday, when HJK Helsinki confirmed their overwhelming dominance in domestic football by wrapping up the league title with four games to spare. They beat TPS 4-1 in Turku while second-placed SJK could only draw at FC Honka Espoo. SJK have only three games left with a possible nine points to play for, which is not enough to make up the 11 point gap.

The Helsinki club can now concentrate on their European campaign, with their next assignment against Club Brugge on Thursday.

Sunday's games saw second-bottom Honka open up a five-point gap on TPS in the relegation battle with just three games left to play. Whoever goes down will be replaced by HIFK Helsinki, KTP Kotka or PK-35 Vantaa, who all have a chance of taking the top spot going in to the final round of games in the second tier Ykkönen division on Saturday.
