During the Bhandara Festival, also called the Festival of Turmeric, devotees use the turmeric powder to worship the deity Lord Khandoba, widely known as a descendant of the sun, and to celebrate his victory over the demons Mani and Malla. It is celebrated on Somvati Amavasya- a new moon day that falls on a Monday at Khandoba Temple in Maharashtra. Yet another example of how so many Indian religious and auspicious festivities are celebrated with colours.

Brilliant deep purple skies yesterday at the Christ the Redeemer statue on the Corcovado mountain in Rio were lit up by the flashes of lightning - which seemed almost to appear as a sign from above.
