Mirjam Gielen Textile Artist on Instagram: "Layering rows of blanket stitches, like a web of mycelia (the ‘roots’ of fungi) covering this liquidambar leaf print on silk.
I stitch intuitively, reacting to what I encounter in this imaginary habitat, much like a tiny critter trying to find its way 😊🪲but I also zoom out regularly to get more of a bird’s eye view 🦅 of what’s going on and where the nice spots are where I can go and leave my thread marks. It’s nice to spend a rainy day visiting a silk forest and wandering around with a warm cup of tea close by.

Photo: A stack of hand-painted signatures waiting to be bound into stitch journals. Back in July of 2022 during a studio clean, I found a couple of small fabric books stuck in a drawer. I had made them the previous summer, and for whatever reason they hadn't lived up to my expectations, thus in the drawer they went, the place where things I don't know what to do with wind up. I'm not certain but I think I originally intending them to be needle books. I must have had some other visual imagery…

Kerry on Instagram: "Colour. Texture. Thread. Slow stitching. I made a @victoriagertenbach painted journal and I’m in love. It was definitely a “trust the process” project. Painting the fabrics and then taking them to the sewing machine. It was magic sewing all the layers. I couldn’t stop. The journal just kept getting more and more lush and interesting. Now the excitement continues as I add in layers of stitching. I haven’t stitched for over a month. I miss how it quiets my mind. Thank you Victoria for the awesome lessons/ book. #stitchjournals #handstitchedbook #handmadebook #handboundbook #copticbinding #stitchedartistsbook #stitchedjournals #fabricbooks #junkjournal #fabricscrapbook #freeformstitching #slowstitch #slowstitching #machinestitching #handstitching #intuitivestitching #embr Mindful Stitching, Slow Stitching Tutorial, Intuitive Stitching, What Is Slow Stitching, Autumn Slow Stitching, Slow Stitch Vessel, Slow Stitching Landscapes, Slow Stitch Mushrooms, Texture Paint
