In Ancient Stone Tablets, the Dash Attack is performed whenever Link Sprints using the Pegasus Boots. Unique to this game is the ability to make instantaneous 90-degree turns while dashing by pressing directions on the Control Pad.
Dash Attack
The Dash Attack is a recurring ability in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3][name references needed]
Overview
The Dash Attack is typically performed when Link uses the Pegasus Boots with a Sword equipped. By holding the button associated with the Boots, Link will run on the spot for about half of a second to "charge" the attack, then instantly Sprint forward at a high speed with his Sword extended, damaging Enemies in his path as he plows past them. The attack is often used for ramming into Trees, pillars, or walls to knock their contents onto the ground.
A Link to the Past
In A Link to the Past, the Dash Attack is performed whenever Link Sprints using the Pegasus Boots. Unlike in some later appearances, this attack can occasionally be used to break open some Cracked Walls, an ability normally reserved for Bombs.
Link's Awakening
In Link's Awakening, Link must equip both his Sword and the Pegasus Boots to perform the Dash Attack; if the sword is unequipped, he will simply Sprint forward unarmed. The attack has several unique behaviors in Link's Awakening: Link can continue to walk in any direction while "charging" the Sprint, and he can use various Items instead of a Sword, including the Bow, the Boomerang, the Shield, and Bombs.
Four Swords
In Four Swords, the Dash Attack is performed whenever one of the Links uses the Pegasus Boots. By pressing the Control Pad in perpendicular directions to Link's movement, he can angle his dashing by a slight degree.
The Minish Cap
After obtaining the Pegasus Boots in The Minish Cap, Link must visit Swiftblade to learn the Dash Attack. The attack can then be performed by using the Boots while a Sword is equipped. If he has not learned the attack from Swiftblade, or if a Sword is not equipped, then he will simply run headlong without holding the sword. Link can once again angle his movement slightly by using the Control Pad.
A Link Between Worlds
In A Link Between Worlds, the Dash Attack is performed whenever Link Sprints using the Pegasus Boots. It is used almost identically to that in A Link to the Past; however, by pressing the Control Pad in the opposite direction after dashing, Link will skid to a halt over a short distance, rather than stopping instantly.
Tri Force Heroes
In Tri Force Heroes, the Dash Attack can be performed from the beginning of the game, without the need for an Item, by holding either the L or R button. When performing the attack, the Links lean forward with the Sword outstretched further than in A Link Between Worlds. Like that game, however, they will skid to a halt instead of stopping instantly.
If Link wears the Ninja Gi, he can Dash Attack almost instantly without having to "charge" it, and his Sword will deal triple the damage of a regular strike to Enemies.[4]
Other Appearances
Ancient Stone Tablets
SoulCalibur II
In SoulCalibur II, the Dash Attack is part of Link's moveset and goes by the name of Hyper Dash Attack. It is considered to be a mid-attack and deals 90 HP worth of damage when fully charged. To perform it, the control pad must be pressed back twice followed by the vertical attack button and the kick attack button at the same time. This will cause Link to run towards his opponent while thrusting his sword forward. The more the attack is charged, the farther that Link will run. When the Hyper Dash Attack is completely charged, Link's sword will be engulfed with fire and will deal more damage.
