Zelda in Popular Culture edits

Hi BluishBlue, in this edit from a few months ago, you explained that some items were removed because of claims that can't be sourced. I have several new items from the Professor Layton series to add to the page, and I would just like to confirm your reasons for removing the other ones.

The item about Flora's shawl having the image of the Triforce would simply require a screenshot, do you agree?

The item about the "Shop" game featuring Ocarinas: I could get a screenshot showing all three of the Ocarinas, but it would only show one of their names at a time. Do you think that even with this screenshot, it's not proof of a Zelda reference, but merely similar themes?

Finally, the item about the story of Miracle Mask having similarities to Majora's Mask is something that can't be easily sourced, because the story unfolds over the course of a long adventure. Do you think that it's not worth mentioning?

The reason for the removal depends on the game (they were too long to mention individually,) and for the Professor Layton series, they were simply unlikely to be a reference even with the images and videos I could find.

For example, the "Triforce" on a shawl was just a rose corsage stylized in a geometric pattern and has no context that it's intended as a reference (such as the series frequently do parodies no matter the situation, or it's introduced in a very tongue-in-cheek tone.)

The same for the three ocarinas and the Miracle Mask's plot; the description of the ocarinas was factual, yet it hardly makes sense if it's actually a reference, and the Miracle Mask causing havoc is a combination of tropes that artifacts related to ancient civilization have magic power and cursed masks make the wearer possessed.

In my biased opinion, an interpretation that an original story is being influenced by something unrelated is a too bold claim to make. BluishBlue (talk) 15:21, 27 August 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanations, those are perfectly reasonable. I have some new screenshots that show another use of the Triforce and a sword that clearly combines several versions of the Master Sword. In trying to apply your reasoning, the Triforces are stone carvings, more visually clear than the shawl, but they exist among some other Aztec-inspired patterns. Since there's no way to tell if it's an intentional reference, I won't add that one to the page. I think new information is worth consideration, but it'd be better to ask anyone who is interested in Discord for easier exchange, especially the potential reference involving hard-to-determine design elements. BluishBlue (talk) 11:21, 28 August 2026 (UTC)
