Graf Zeppelin’s Arctic Flight, 1931
Graf Zeppelin’s 1931 Arctic Flight was both a scientific expedition and a dramatic display of the airship’s ability under extreme conditions.
The five-stage flight covered 13,310 kilometers in 136:26 flying hours between July 24 – July 31, 1931, and literally changed the map of the Arctic region with the information obtained during the flight

1935: The Graf Zeppelin above the clouds
This photograph appeared in the 6 July 1935 edition of The Sphere magazine. The caption was, “The Graf Zeppelin seen at the start of one of her many voyages to South America. The fact that she has seldom been in difficulties is said to be partly due to her commander’s skill in flying round and above storms." (620 x 1024)
