A barque, barc, or bark is a type of sailing vessel with three or more masts having the fore- and mainmasts rigged square and only the mizzen (the aftmost mast) rigged fore-and-aft.
“Barcarole” in music shares the same etymology, being originally a folk song sung by Venetian gondolier and derived from barca - boat in Italian.

Only one such vessel was constructed – the Ernest-Bazin, named for its inventor. It was found to be impractical. +
“a freak ship” built with a square superstructure on six buoyant wheels which her French inventor claimed would achieve 30 knots. She safely crossed the Channel, but could only manage 8 knots with difficulty.
When her inventor died, she was broken up in England in 1899.

The yacht looked rather unusual: the yacht itself (the higher body) represented the boat cut at the waterline 79,25m long and 33,53m wide placed on the elleptic ponton (lower body) 71,63 m long and 46,63 m wide. In the middle section it was not higher than 5,49m, the bottom was flat, with three keels. It was often called “the bull on the halibut”.

Pre-Fabricated and Pre-Assembled
To build ships as quickly as possible, workers pieced them together assembly-line fashion from pre-made sections built at the shipyard. About 120 large units, made up of some 250,000 items, went into building each ship.
They built 18 brand new shipyards just for Libertys. And put 650,000 Americans—women, men, young people, old people—building these ships. They became the largest fleet of ships ever built in the history of the world in such a short period of time.

During the reign of Elizabeth, the galleon, or great ship, and the galliasse, or cruiser, grew to gradual perfection, in the hands of our great sailors. If we look upon the galleon or great ship as the prototype of the ship of the line, and on the galliasse as the prototype of the frigate, and on the pinnace as the prototype of the sloop, or corvette, we shall not be far wrong.
They were, of course, in many ways inferior to the ships which fought in the great French wars, two centuries later, but their general appearance was similar. The rig was different, but not markedly so, while the hulls of the ships presented many points of general likeness. The Elizabethan ships were, however, very much smaller than most of the rated ships in use in the eighteenth century.
