Nice to meet ya.

Our Los Angeles communities are in crisis following devastating wildfires. AfroLA is here to serve with quality journalism as we work to rebuild and move forward.

AfroLA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit digital news outlet for Los Angeles. We report for impact — with, by and for our communities. We aren’t just “Black news.” Our goal is to provide coverage of issues that matter with a distinctly Black voice to anyone who reads it.

Support our journalism

AfroLA is a nonprofit newsroom that covers greater Los Angeles through the lens of the Black community. We’re solutions-focused, data-driven and community-centered journalism.

Initial funders helped us launch and establish our initial operations. Your donation to our efforts will allow us to grow as a financially sustainable news organization. Gifts will go directly to:

* Our editorial operations, including fair pay for the journalists, editors, freelancers, community contributors and staff that make our journalism happen.

* Developing programs that empower current and future journalists to better cover L.A.’s Black communities through education, training and (paid) opportunities

* Maintaining our website (you’re here!)

We are completely devoted to our community and thankful for our various partners. To take our journalism to the next level we need more individual donors like you, ideally to contribute a monthly donation.

You can follow our coverage and be among the first to find out about our programs and coverage by signing up for our newsletter. As a supporter or potential supporter we always want to hear from you. You can contact us with any questions, comments and concerns. In the future we hope to have donor cultivation events, virtual and in-person, and we hope you will join us for these gatherings. Again, thank you for supporting AfroLA.
