Patriotic Diamond Chain / Buckeye Beauty Blocks

You saw our last State QOV block  - the little log cabin. Those quilts are going to be great!

Our next block drive block we will be doing is the Buckeye Beauty / Diamond Chain Block.

I have been taken over!!! I started one of these with some of my Plaid squares, and then we saw Cynthias similar block and then... I got to thinking... wouldn't it look great in Patriotics ....

So I dug into my trusty 5 inch square bin. I got a little wild hair - I wonder if I can piece enough blocks to make one in all Plaids????

I am digging it - and by using it as leader/enders on my other projects - look what I came up with so far!!

I'm loving it!!!

You use all 5 inch squares - so easy - here is the tute:

Diamond Chain/ Buckeye Tutorial

What is the Over/Under on if I can piece a WHOLE quilt out of plaids? ( with a few eagles for good measure thrown in?)

Buckets of Binding and now Piles of Quilts!!!

Yesterday was our BINDING Day at our Quilts of Valor Sew day..

This is the Pre Pile (above) ☝

Please ignore the messes behind it - I am still sorting my parents things on top of my things, on top of adding labels to more to be bound,  on top of fabric on top of... well - I am just a mess!!!!

Stack #1 NOW BOUND ☝

I get a lot of the credit for all the Amazing Quilt of Valor presentations we make - but that’s just because I talk the loudest ( and maybe the most) and get to be the front woman ….
Today the amazing quilters who are a part of my group - worked their tails off in very warm room to finish off these quilts . This is pile number 1 .
Pile 2 is already being washed for upcoming presentations and ! More quilts went home with these awesome quilters to bind !
A super shout out to these amazing quilters!

Now we also do a little show and tell before we stitch!!
Ms Jeri - she lead one of our Sew Days and had us make these cool friendship stars - she taught us a new way ( to me) to make them - and I think this is the 3rd quilt she has finished from the blocks

in 2022 She led a day and taught us this hatchet block - she made 2 quilts from them and then had some blocks leftover - so!! Whats a quilter to do? She make more and completed another top!!

Ms Lorna Turned in this top!! You may remember it? Long May She Wave? I think it was a mystery last year. She said she had worked on it, then put it away, then realized her Elves weren't getting it done - so she had to take over!!

And she liked making the stars the way Jeri taught us so much.... She made another!!!

Today I am washing quilts, unloading the car and getting everything back in place !!! Oh - And did I mention these quilters bound in a hot room? Instead of Hot Yoga - we did Hot Quilting!!!

The AC went out - so by the time we left it was 80deg in there... oh boy.....

What an AMAZING Weekend

I'm exhausted, I'm ramped up.... I want to sit, but I want to make more.... I'm overwhelmed, and I am amazed.... this month - and specifically this weekend has been CRAZy!!!

Saturday:

Was an amazing morning !!

With over 200 veterans in attendance we got to award 11 Quilts of Valor to some very cool Veterans !

It’s and honor and a privilege to wrap these beautiful heroes in their Quilts, but it’s even better when I get to hug them as well ðŸ¥°

My amazing group of quilters sure make some of the most gorgeous quilts !!

Sunday:

Sunday was a pretty incredible day for me ❤️

We were able to honor 5 veterans in my home church ( Kersey Community Church) with the award of these Quilts of Valor

It was super special to me to be able to hug and recognize the military service of these great people , but to do it in front of the people who pray for me , support me and my family , and are so very important to me , made the presentation a little more personal and …… nerve wracking ðŸ¤£

These ladies and gentlemen served their country and are some of the best !!

Such an honor to recognize them right before Independence Day ðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸ðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸

and then
Sunday afternoon
QOV Sew day - and check out some of these quilts!!!

Jeri taught our group how to make these friendship star blocks then She and Olive set them in a quilt top. and Jeri quilted them.  Clare bound them!!

TWO whole amazing quilts!! I love them!
And the teamwork that goes in to making these!!

A super cool eagle panel quilt by Ethel.

and we spent the day stitching on a new QOV - pattern to come soon - that I designed, and the awesome Deb made some embroidered blocks for - it looked so great!!

Don;t you just love weekends like this? I want to start stuff today - but! I am on Beef Deliveries today... so while I am delivering you know I am making lists right???

A Scrappy QOV and !! Finished ( or not) Friday!!!

Happy Friday!!!

Since my Dog is still in recovery I made sure I didn't have anything scheduled this week .. except my Guild meeting ( K could babysit) and Grain runs,.. and you know what? I LIKED it!!! I got so much more done, and I got stitching time in, I made meals in the insta-pot, didn't venture as far as making cookies... but we had food!!! ( ps - I was reminded I did have a QOV presenatation in there too)

I have decided that Recovery will last until October.... yep!!! I can't go anywhere!! haha!!

I used to cook out at a Ranch ( 30 people - 2 times a day!!) One of the Chefs that I worked with has a sister that quilts. So of course, we talked about QOV and Susan decided to jump in and make some tops.

They called and came over and I think she gave me 12 tops!! and they were all beautiful!! So I got this one out and prepped it to quilt!!

I used the panto Sparklers from Dawnas Design Threads - I think it is perfect for this one!!

I stole this next image from Julie!https://quiltdivajulie.blogspot.com/ I even printed it and put in on the fridge. Our Ranch is not huge, but summers are SO busy - and we have  horses that we train and horses we compete on, and K plants a huge garden and.... all the boys have left us ( I am not sure I gave permission)  We needed a reminder... its all good, and we love it, so focus and enjoy!!

Its Friday - Its time to Brag - how did you week go? Did you get anything moved a little farther ahead?
Finished?
Link up and let us ohh and ahhh..

QOV All around is DONE!!! and! Finished ( or not) Friday

I do NOT know what to name this quilt ! Or what I have called it - but today!!

I am calling it DONE!!!

It started as the 20 stars for 20 years quilt from QOV - and then it morphed into this...

and now!!! it is Quilted, ready to be bound by some other wonderful person - and I am calling it DONE!!!

I did come to remember that adding little small borders give you a lot of room for error -and one of them might have had to come off and get reattached so it didn't wave at everyone driving by.... oops

And I quilted it pretty densely - so it there were any waves.... they have been stilled haha!!

QuiltyDog - She was trying to help me cut binding and I told her to stop touching my fabric... this is her look... as in "Who me?" wasn't me!!!!

It is now your turn to show off!! What have you been up to? Did you get anything farther ahead in its quilting life?

Stars Like Spaghetti Clue #5

Once upon a Time I was driving in my car - and a song came on. Me, lots of times, hearing what I want to hear - heard *Stars Like Spaghetti*

and my mind went immediately to a quilt design.  It wasn't until the third time I heard the song that I realized it was actually

Stars Like Confetti.  oops!! That would make a great quilt pattern too... but not this time.

Today you are making a few more of these:

I used up a lot of Scraps, but.. of course, I can still find more:

Design wall and 2024 QOV Mystery

Good morning peeps!!!

I am doing the Bonnie Hunter Mystery because its Red white and Blue and I'm a sucker for those colors!!

Go me!! I have all the pieces cut for Clue #3  ( ps Clue #1 and #2 are DONE!)

But!! While I am doing it - I am cutting a few extra strips here and there for the 2024 QOV Mystery!!! It does have a name - I will reveal it a little later.....

So here is the Schedule at this moment...

Fabric Requirements :  January 5th
Clue #1  January 17
with One clue a week ( Each WEDNESDAY) until we are done - I see this being 5-6 clues...

The clues will post on my Mystery Quilts 4 Military FIRST- in the files section... you will need to be logged into your Groups.io account to go to the files section and download the clues..

The clues will also be HERE on my Blog a little later  ( Members gets first crack haha!!... actually I always have to do chores in between posting!)

So mark your calendars!!

here are the few secrets I will share now:

I will tell you some secrets about it
it will finish at 64 x 80
It will be a scrappy one - yes you can use yardage -  but!
Scraps!!!

Think
1 1/2 in strips of lights
2 1/2 inch strips of Red and Blues

and a few 3 1/2 inch strips thrown in for good measure..

maybe (but DON"T force yourself!!) if you are tidying up from other projects - you can start piling some of these size scraps in a bin.....

Such as this:

As you can see ..... I need one more block on each side and little fidgeting on the inner white borders - before figuring out what I will do next ;-)

I think I like where this is going....
