about
Feast of Fear is a co-write between Ammonite's Erin Frisby and Beverley J Stanton as part of "Why Don't We Duet", a fundraiser organized by Sea Griffin for The Potter's House Pay it Forward program, which feeds 100 people a day.
"The idea was born from a pre 2024 election dive into the deep rifts that have formed in families and the loss that many have experienced within their own families and circles. The phrase "Feast of Fear" surfaced as we discussed how the coming holidays will affect those who fear the "other" as well as those who fear for their safety, lives, and the future.
Now that the election is over, the song seems even more prescient and potent. Not as a commentary or judgement on any individual's choice to confront, release, embrace, or distance from family. But rather as a reflection on loss and grief as well as a reminder of our deeper ties to humanity, the Earth, chosen family, and to ourselves." - Erin Frisby
Please share this song with someone who needs it.
lyrics
Feast of Fear
I was lost
and then found myself surrounded by
familiar faces
Turned to wolves
A pack of lies
Thirsty for a fight
Hungry for the news that
Feeds the fire
Feeds the fever
Sows discontent
Turns friends into believers
Turn the tables, breaking bread
And breaking bond
After the harvest, who will keep us warm?
What do you say to survive?
Do you lash out while the world is ending?
Or do you nod and smile?
Mind your tongue November's daughter
Blood runs thicker than water
Further than the end of the year
Frost is creeping in
The conversation's getting harder
You're invited to the Feast of Fear
Running restless and relentless
Wolves come bearing gifts and baring teeth
A chance to be a champion for your crumbling king
He's building up an army
The desperate, the covetous, the angry
Buried your treasure where you buried your heart
In the land of plenty there is never enough
It's the calm before the surge
The rage before the levee breaks
Fool's gold. You won't let go.
When you're drowning it won't keep you safe
Mind your tongue November's daughter
Blood runs thicker than water
Further than the end of the year
Frost is creeping in
The conversation's getting harder
You're invited to the Feast of Fear
Deny, deny, deny what's been unleashed
The floods and the droughts
The Titans from the deep
Dragged ashore
Centuries before, we brought death across the sea.
Death sits across the table from me.
I'm a sinner and a prodigal son
Walk into the den five swords swinging
Can we fell this family tree
Sever the root, the bloodline?
Can I change your heart?
Because you will not change your mind
Mind your tongue November's daughter
Blood runs thicker than water
Further than the end of the year
Frost is creeping in
The conversation's getting harder
You're invited to the Feast of Fear
Mind your heart November's daughter
Life runs deeper than water
Further than the end of the year.
Frost is creeping in
The conversation's getting harder
You're invited to the Feast of Fear
