Merry and #Cre8time Bright Christmas Tags... by Bridget Caldwell-Cordero

Hello everyone! I’m super excited to bring you this project. I wanted to make tags for some Christmas gifts but did not want to use or make the traditional ones... so I came up with this idea to create them out of resin {or should I say Amazing Clear Cast Resin and Amazing Mold Rubber}.

How does one make a resin tag??! I cut out a chipboard tag and wrapped it with saran wrap. Then used am empty tin I had and securely glued the tag to the inside. After that, I mixed up some Amazing Mold Rubber and poured it in {CLICK HERE for mixing/preparation}. Once this was cured I pulled the mold out and then the fun began...

I mixed some Amazing Clear Cast Resin – which is so easy to work with! Since the curing time takes longer, it gave me longer time to play around with the scenery I wanted to create on my tags. I also used the White Alumilite Dye to make it look like snow. I placed buttons and stickers to make little scenes on each tag.

Once the first layer cured over night, I mixed up some more of the Amazing Clear Cast Resin and added another layer. At this time I placed more decorations on a few of my tags to give them a 3-D layered effect. Once the tags were completely cured, I popped them out of the mold, drilled a hole in the top and added some ribbon and other fibers.

 

 

But the fun does not end there… When you share your gift with that special someone attach a ornament hook and they have a keepsake to hang on their tree for years to come!

Hello Amazing Crafters... welcome to day five of our 12 Days of Amazing Home Decor! Today we revisit an #ACPthrowback project by Amazing Creative Brenda Burfeind. With winter fast approaching, today's project may inspire you to look at a snow day in a whole new Cre8time way!

After an ice storm, that lasted for days with power outages and downed branches... she found some beauty in the icy stillness that remained. Brenda captured photos of the winter wonderland and wanted to remember this in a special way – not just with pictures winding up in a photo album. 

With a little help from her husband, Amazing Mold Putty, Amazing Clear Cast Resin, and some glittery goodness from her scrapbooking stash, she made a beautiful plaque to commemorate the event that her family can reminisce for years to come.

I completely fell in love with Alumidust, an Amazing Crafting Products support product. It's original intended use is for Fishing Lures, etc., but that never stopped a crafter! No way! I used several shades of Alumidust and Alumilite Metallic Powders on my layout to create AMAZING texture and color!

Mold Rubber Monday brings an AMAZING Art Journal Cover by Rachel Whetzel

Hello, gang!! Remember the vintage books I shared with you last year? I finally had the chance to mold one of them, and create a totally unique and pretty-cool-if-I-do-say-so-myself-and-I-do-say-so-myself, Art Journal for this coming year at The Precinct (AKA A Year in the Life of An Art Journal).

To create one of your OWN journals...

Here's what you'll need:

• A really cool, old book that you don't mind the possibility of ruining. (I'll share more about that later) 
• A shallow tray of some sort for casting in. 
• Amazing Mold Rubber
• Amazing Clear Cast Resin
• Blue Alumilite Dye
• Krylon Matte Finish Artist' Spray Paint
• Acrylic Paints 
• All the bits and bobbles, ephemera, etc. that you want to decorate your cover with. (I'll leave that up to you) 

Let's get started!!

This art journal began with the idea I had to use Amazing Mold Rubber to cast a mold of some of my favorite vintage books with cool textures and embossing on them. For this project, I chose my Women's Institute Library of Cookery book from my bunch. It's 5 and 1/2 inches by 9 inches, and a nice middle of the road size for an art journal.

To get the book ready for casting, I took the cover apart, keeping the front and back. I sealed them using matte finish clear spray paint. 

You can see a bit of the embossing on the cover in the photo above. This step alone "wrecked" my book cover, because the paint dried slightly opaque. When I say to use a book you don't mind losing the original of, I really mean it.

Once the paint was dry, I mixed and poured Amazing Mold Rubber into a glass tray I had purchased for this job. GO HERE for video instructions on mixing and pouring Amazing Mold Rubber. In hind sight, I would have used a mold release on both my book cover AND my tray, because I ended up nearly losing the entire project when the mold rubber took too well to both pieces. I don't know why I didn't do that in the first place!! Alumilite has a Mold Release, and I have it in my stash! You can also use Vaseline as a release agent. I would have used it on my tray to help the mold rubber release from it. Lay your cover face down in the mold rubber, and press it in. I didn't use an anchor for my pieces, because items will naturally float to the surface of Amazing Mold Rubber. I kept an eye on my cover and kept pressing the pieces down every once in a while to ensure they were in the rubber deep enough. Once the Amazing Mold Rubber started to cure and set up, I didn't have to press them in any more.

It took some considerable doing, once the rubber set, to pull my book cover out of the mold. This is why I mention using a book you don't mind chancing getting ruined. As I mentioned above, I also had a tough time getting the Amazing Mold Rubber to release from the glass. Again, something I would fix with a release agent in the future. For this project, I managed to get things out by cutting the mold in half, and using a LOT of elbow grease!! Be careful, though! I did rip my mold a bit. Thankfully, when you press the mold back into it's tray to pour, seams like that seal back up for the pour.

I had ideas that my cover was going to look like ice, so to get an icy look, I used just a DOT of Blue Alumilite Dye in my Amazing Clear Cast Resin before I poured it into the mold. I used a toothpick, dipped into the tip of the dye bottle, and used that dye to tint the Clear Cast Resin. Here's a view of the resin and mold mid removal once everything had cured.

I got busy decorating the cover of my art journal using glitter on the edges, and pieces of ephemera all around on it. My word for the year is FOCUS... so I used the clear surface of the journal to add dimension by putting ephemera in layers on top AND behind the resin, giving the eye LOTS of places to focus! (What can I say... it's the details, people. Details like that make me REALLY happy.) I used some acrylic paints and wiped some of it off to draw out the texture of the original book, and help the embossed part of the cover show well. It was tricky to photograph it! (check out the reflection of the sun off the glitter at the top of the pic!)

In keeping with the Kitchy feel of the 30's and 40's from the original book, I used some old Blue Chip and True Value stamps, some vintage pom pom trim, crepe paper, seam binding ribbon and measuring tape Washi. 

I used ephemera from Gauche Alchemy to create pages to fill the inside of my journal! I also used some punchinella from the store to stencil on some of my pages, as well as on the cover. You can GO HERE to see more of those pages!

So, even though this project had a bit of trail and error in it, I managed to get a finished piece that I LOVE, and could make more of!! I'm using this journal for my year long art journal and photography project THE PRECINCT. You can see how I'll be using it in the prompts HERE!

Owls Howl Under the Halloween Moon! AMAZING Tim Holtz' 12 Tags of 2013 for October... by Susan M. Brown {sbartist}

Hello Amazing Crafters! Susan here today to share my variation of Tim Holtz' 12 Tags of 2013 for October. For those of you who are not into stamping or papercrafting, Tim Holtz is the master of all things "Distressed" and has a monthly challenge where he designs a tag using products and techniques and has a linkup where you can share your try at the monthly tag. So this month's tag was SCREAMING Amazing Crafting Products... so I have created all my embellishments for this tag using Amazing Mold Putty, Amazing Casting Resin and an assortment of Alumilite Dyes. You are in for a Halloween Treat!

Here is Tim's Tag example.

First I did the marbleized painted background technique - to get it out of the way

so I can have some real fun and break out my Amazing Mold Putty!

In Tim's tag example above, the glittered embellishments are created from chipboard die cut shapes. I don't personally have those dies, but I do have some other things in my crafty stash that I can use. One of the things that's great about this monthly challenge is that anything goes - use what "YOU HAVE" is the name of the game... it's all about learning new techniques and having fun.

I didn't have a moon - so I made one. I located a vintage man in the moon image from thegraphicsfairy.com, printed it out, stuck it to some chipboard and cut it out. I mixed up a batch of Amazing Mold Putty and gently pressed my shape flat into it and I used the back end of a paintbrush to press it down further to make the mold a little more than 1/8" deep. Then I mixed up a batch of Amazing Casting Resin with one drop each of the new Alumilite Fluorescent Yellow and Orange Dyes to get a nice yellow orange cast resin moon. The moon in the photo above has been painted with a light layer of Ranger Spiced Marmalade Distress Paint.

About the owl - I already had those made from a Halloween Owl charm swap I participated in last month. Stay tuned for a post next month where I will share how I created my darling Purple owls!

Now on to the frame - the centerpiece of the tag!

I mixed up a batch really small batch of Amazing Casting Resin and Alumilite Black Dye and poured directly onto one of my Sizzix embossing folders. You know you have 'em... they AREN'T JUST FOR PAPER!!! Before I poured the resin, I prepared my embossing folder with a light rubbing of olive oil {it's what I had - was out of the spray} so that the resin will not stick in all the little detailed bits of the plastic. I waited until the resin started to thicken before pouring it directly onto the embossing folder, leading it around with my stir stick to fill all the details and a little overhang.

I let the resin cure for about 30 minutes before peeling back. ** A TIP ** the thinner a resin pour is - the longer it will take to completely harden. So in this particular application - this is GREAT! It's hard, but soft and somewhat pliable, though not stretchy, so you have some time to remove it from the mold - AND - cut and trim {OR EVEN form it over a shaped item} before it fully hardens.

After removed from mold. I laid it flat and blotted off the excess oil with a paper towel.

 

Then I began to trim with an old pair of EK Success Cutterbee detail scissors. This pour is no more than 1/8" thick in the detailed areas and these scissors cut through the resin beautifully while it's still soft. I continued all the way around defining the outer edge of the frame.

Then I trimmed out the center of the frame. Isn't it beautiful!? And the detail perfectly captured. I'll definitely be doing this again - I must have about 100 of these embossing folders... so much fun!!!

After trimming, I placed the frame back into the embossing folder and wrapped with a couple light duty rubber bands to let it complete hardening and to protect it from my clumsy ways. It was several days between when I started the resin to when I completed assembly and the frame was no longer flexible after a day or so.

So here's all of my base resin pieces before finishing.

Now on to adding a little GLITZ! Using Ranger Embossing Ink and a heat embossable glue powder, I adhered Black Soot Ranger Distress Glitter. I only rubbed the ink on the raised areas so the detail could still be seen. This looks so great!

Now for the moon. I repeated the same steps in applying the glue powder, but this time I did it in two applications. First I did overall then applied the Antique Linen Ranger Distress Glitter. Then I added more embossing ink and glue powder, heat set to make it tacky, then applied Spiced Marmalade to the outer edge. This makes a nice blend. I like how here and there the orange base peeks through on the edges.

For my owl, this was colored with Alumilite Violet Dye. Using Diamond Glaze (a clear dimensional adhesive that sticks to a variety of items - resin included), I filled in the belly and tail with Seedless Preserves Ranger Distress Glitter. I also filled in around the eyes with a superfine white glitter from my stash.. To finish the owl I adhered some gems for eyes and a pearlized brad head {I broke the metal arms off} above the tail. The final touch is a tied twist of green raffia for a branch and adding some Viva Las VegaStamps! script, tree and numbers to the painted tag. Voila!
