The animation in this seventh movie has again gotten better. The fights, especially the ones with swords, are really well animated and the chase scenes used some good cg which made it more realistic.
The music was left for the most part the same as it was in the parts before, but there is a nice vocal piece which plays an important part in both storylines and is sung throughout the anime. The ending, Time After Time by Mai Kuraki who already did the ending for the 5th movie as well as some openings/endings for the tv series, is a nice one again, the rhythm is slow and melancholic, the lyrics fit to the relationship between the two pairs Ran/Shinichi and Heiji/Kazuha and the footage makes you experience some important scenes once again.
The story revolves again around the legend of Bentei, but is fast outshined by the side-story about Heiji and his first love. He also gets a lot of screen-time and can show off his abilities, not only his detective reasoning but also his kendo and driving skills, in the many action scenes.
