Bequests

For many alumni/ae and friends of the School, a charitable bequest is the easiest way to make a gift to the School.  Giving by bequest costs nothing now, but you may derive enormous satisfaction from knowing that the School will benefit from your bequest in the future.  In your will, revocable trust, or other estate plan, you can name the School as the beneficiary of a portion of your estate, or of particular assets in your estate.  Here is sample language for a bequest:

“I give ( _____ dollars or _____ percent of the residue of my estate or _____ particular asset) to the Trustees of the American School of Classical Studies, tax id # 13-5658824, a Massachusetts charitable corporation with offices in Princeton, New Jersey as permanent endowment (for its general purposes or for a particular program or department of the School).”

The Edward Capps Society

Individuals who have included the School in their estate plans are eligible for membership in the School’s Edward Capps Society.

Other Assets You Can Give

In addition to cash and securities, you can give real estate (including the remainder interest in your residence after your death) and tangible personal property. You can also designate the School as the beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy. For any questions about such gifts, please consult our Development Office.

Your Gifts are Tax Deductible

The American School of Classical Studies at Athens is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under Federal Tax ID 13-5658824. Donations to the American School are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law in the United States. For other countries, please check with your local tax adviser regarding tax deductions of charitable contributions.
