Here are some guidelines for getting the height right for your chandelier, foyer lantern, island pendants, or wall sconces.

We kept it really simply. Very doable. We left the mantel and firebox as is. We relocated and replaced the sconces (they were too high and too wide and certainly not cool enough). We aligned the sconces with the sides of the mantle. Whereas before they were sort of floating on the wall, apropos to nothing. We also replaced the TV with a mirror. You know we don't love TVs above fireplaces, although they are necessary in some spaces. Finally, we added simple decor to pull it all together. ⁠

When we rearranged our living room I knew I wanted sconces on our main wall on either side of the fireplace. We have ZERO electrical on this wall so even if we could drum up an outlet or two, wiring for sconces would be even more work & money. The obvious choice was sconces with puck lights in them.
