I'm currently teaching an art class focusing on 3D art. This exercise with paper is a good way to show children how sculptural pieces can be viewed from many angles. Begin with an 8 1/2 by 11" sheet of card stock. Fold in half. Cut lines from the bottom arching up toward the fold, stopping about 1/2 inch from fold. Add interest by punching holes. Open the paper and add stamps or other decoration. Fold again. Alternate between folding the strips in opposite decorations.

Kids art idea- Make Calder-Inspired Paper Sculptures! Cut out a rectangular piece of paper. I used construction paper, which stood up fine at home, but fell down with any bit of wind. If you want to make these sturdier, use cardstock (Optional: Decorate it with markers!) 2. Fold it in half. 3. Make cuts like pictured. Cut lines and curves until they almost reach the fold. 4. Optional, decorate with groovy circle stickerrs. 5. Open it up and fold the strips to the front or back in Kindergarten Sculpture, Sculpture Art Projects, Kindergarten Art Projects, Paper Art Projects, 4th Grade Art, Paper Sculptures, Cardboard Sculpture, Sculpture Projects, Easy Art Projects

As a child I really loved Alexander Calder's sculptures. Whimsical and colorful, they let me see that art can be fun too! Today I'm sharing a really simple paper sculpture project inspired by Calder's large scale metal ones. They take only minutes to whip up and certainly would also make for fun scissor practice with younger kids as well! Kids Calder-Inspired Art Sculptures This post contains affiliate links. I'm so VERY excited to present my very first guest blogger on MiniMatisse. I met Mark Rode a couple months back at a training and we share our social media information with each other. I have been so impressed with Mark's Instagram that I asked if he would write a blog post about this amazing project. Mark is an Elementary Art Teacher at Oxbow Creek Elementary in Champlin Minnesota. He explains that his inspiration came from another teacher in West Australia, Ann Farrell. I'm a fan of her…
