Once, I bought a bag of dirt on the internet. I continue to be amazed by the variety of things you can buy on Amazon, but long ago, in the pages of the Sears Catalog, Amazon’s predecessor, you could even buy a house. Between the years of 1908 and 1942, the Sears Roebuck company sold more than 70,000 of these Sears Catalog homes, which were built in locations all over the country.

The Ridgeland Sears Kit House was originally known as the Maplewood until its name change in 1933. It was described in the Sears catalog as a story and a half English style home with a prominent front gable and chimney. The first floor is a whole house unto itself with a kitchen, living room, bathroom and one bedroom. The high pitched roof allows for two more bedrooms on the second floor.
