Twisted art

A waterfall that turns into white women. Interesting!

I got into digital art after my father gave me a 1 megapixel camera back in 2002. I already had spent years painting and drawing and the camera was the perfect tool for endless experimentation. I tried then a scanner and started merging my drawings with my photos because photography was never satisfying to me; my head was always way too up in the clouds to portrait reality, I knew I wanted quiet the contrary, to destroy it and make something new out of it, and what better medium than…

The image is a black and white drawing of a tree. The tree is large and has a thick trunk that is twisted and gnarled. The branches are bare, and the leaves are scattered on the ground. The tree is surrounded by a thick fog, which gives it a mysterious and eerie appearance.

Greek artist Nikos Gyftakis created this wonderful series of swirling self-portraits between 2004-2005. The works are made with oil pastels on canvas and are actually quite large, with a few of the pieces taller than 5′ (1.5m).
