Do this unless it’s your intention to make the room feel smaller then use a darker color. 2. Expensive - Wood beams are great. You can also find faux wood beam boxes but they’re still relatively expensive and require installation. 3. Cheap - Be super intentional with your wallpaper to make sure it fits your space the best. Make sure the graphics and/or colors fit the space. Look for good quality wallpaper and someone to install it for you.  4. Expensive - with coffered ceiling make sure that the squares are the correct size and depth relative to your space. Darker colors tend to recede visually, which means they give the impression of moving away from you. When you paint the ceiling a dark hue, your eyes are drawn upward, and the ceiling visually recedes, creating a sense of depth.
