"Language For Stone" [AR R6] is the third collaboration between English composer Matt Howden and his father the poet Keith Howden. Invited by Archaeological Records to inaugurate a series of works aimed at researching the potential of the sound of musical stones, the two artists followed in the footsteps of the eccentric eighteenth-century gentleman Peter Crosthwaite who, inspired by his travels in China, had managed to locate an outcrop of musical stones in the Lake District (Cumbria, UK) and to build the first European lithophone of modern times. Matt Howden retraced the course of the River Greta like Crosthwaite until he found the singing stones, and after sampling their voices he composed nine songs for the verses that Keith Howden composed in honor of Mount Skiddaw.
The result is a timeless record, which starting from a folk and neo-classical matrix, from the dialogue between stone and violin and from the stories of some extraordinary men and their explorations, stimulates reasoning around the impossible music archaeology.

It's a Coil album. I really need not say more than that, but I will.
A one-of-a-kind electronic album that remains exciting over thirty years later. I love the acid-y techno bits and the vocoded vocals. Essential Coil album - essential electronic and post-industrial album.
The title track is a masterpiece. polyat6742
