Born Norma Mortenson on the 1st of June 1926 in Los Angeles, Monroe adopted her stagename in 1946. Despite only appearing in 29 released films between 1947 & 1961, Marilyn’s impact endures to this day with iconic performances in titles including “All About Eve” with Bette Davis, Celeste Holm & Anne Baxter; “Some Like It Hot” with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon & Joe E. Brown; “The Seven Year Itch” with Tom Ewell & Carolyn Jones; “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” with Jane Russell; “Bus Stop“; “How to Marry a Millionaire” with Lauren Bacall, Betty Grable & William Powell; “Don’t Bother to Knock” with Richard Widmark; “Monkey Business” with Cary Grant & Ginger Rogers; “Niagara” with Joseph Cotten; “River of No Return” with Robert Mitchum; “The Prince & the Showgirl” with Laurence Olivier, Gladys Henson & Richard Wattis; “Let’s Make Love” with Tony Randall & Wilfrid Hyde-White; and “The Misfits” with Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift & Thelma Ritter; to name a few. Her final production “Something’s Got to Give“, with Dean Martin & Cyd Charisse, was never completed for release.
